Lagos: President Bola Tinubu has appealed for increased prayers for the military and security agencies actively engaged in safeguarding the nation, especially those confronting threats from terrorists and bandits. The President made this call during the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Eid Ground in Dodan Barracks, Lagos. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing security forces and vulnerable citizens in prayers, as stated by his spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, President Tinubu underscored the significance of sacrifice during the festive season and urged citizens to extend their support to those in need. He stated, “We should remember to pray and give to those who are very vulnerable in the spirit of the season, which is sacrifice. We must unite, remain our brothers’ keeper, and give to our neighbours. We should show love to everyone.”
Highlighting the critical role of the military, the President stressed the need for collective prayers for troops who face daily challenges from terrorism and banditry. “We must pray hard for our troops to keep us safe. They are making sacrifices in the challenges that we face from terrorism and banditry today. We must pray for them specifically, remember their sacrifices, and continue to behave well as citizens,” he added.
The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Suleiman Oluwatoyin Abu-Nola, also addressed the gathering, encouraging the faithful to emulate Abraham’s sacrificial life. He reminded worshipers of the essence of sacrifice and the importance of serving Allah and the community. The Chief Imam emphasized the need for peace, unity, and consideration for the less fortunate, urging Nigerians to rise above ethnic sentiments and work together for national progress.
In attendance with President Tinubu were notable figures including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Minister of State, Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle. Other dignitaries included the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Femi Hamzat, former governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.
Prominent business leaders such as Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Group Chief Executive of Oando, Wale Tinubu, and President Tinubu’s friend and longtime ally, Prof. Shaffideen Amuwo, were also present at the event.
