Abuja: The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to introduce reforms in the FCT transportation sector aimed at improving safety and comfort. This announcement follows his inspection of the completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals, which are set for inauguration in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office. Additionally, Wike inspected the completed access road to Giri District, which is also prepared for inauguration.
According to News Agency of Nigeria, the minister emphasized that significant changes are on the horizon for the FCT’s transportation sector. A committee is currently working on the reforms, which are expected to be implemented before the inauguration of the new bus and taxi terminals. Wike highlighted the importance of knowing those involved in the taxi business and standardizing vehicle colors as part of security measures, facilitating easier identification if incidents occur. The FCT Administration is also working to eliminate numerous motor parks located on roads.
Wike expressed satisfaction with the quality of the completed projects, although he identified some areas needing correction. He commended the contractor for their efforts and pledged continued support for local contractors to ensure the best outcomes for Nigerians. The Kugbo and Mabushi bus and taxi terminals were constructed as part of efforts to enhance the FCT’s transportation system. While these terminals are ready for inauguration, construction at the Central Area terminal is ongoing. The minister also announced plans for two additional terminals, to be built in Bwari and Gwagwalada.
