FG Committed to Reposition Textile Industry for Sustainable Growth


Abuja: The Federal Government has expressed its commitment to repositioning the Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) industry for sustainable growth. Sen. John Owan Enoh, Minister of State for Industry, highlighted this focus during a Stakeholder’s Meeting on ‘Revitalising Nigeria’s Cotton, Textile and Garment Industry’ held in Abuja.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, the theme of the meeting was ‘Co-Creating Solutions to Grow CTG Industry in Nigeria’. Enoh stated that the primary goal of the meeting was to finalize the review of the policy document aimed at fully revitalizing the sector. He emphasized the importance of aligning the industry’s growth and development with global best practices.



Enoh remarked that the ministry is dedicated to establishing a robust policy and institutional framework that considers both current realities and future opportunities. He stressed the importance of stakeholder participation in promoting transparency and contributing to the sector’s development. “Your presence here is a powerful reminder that sustainable solutions are best shaped by those who live the challenges, those who drive the innovations and those who carry the vision,” he said.



The minister highlighted the importance of collaboration, expressing gratitude for the stakeholders’ willingness to contribute to the process. He noted that the Industrial Revolution Work Group has been inaugurated to revitalize moribund industries and emphasized the ministry’s efforts to revive and sustain these industries. Enoh also encouraged Nigerians to support locally made products to help realize the nation’s potential.



Amb. Nura Rimi, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, underscored the potential of the sector to drive economic growth, create jobs, and enhance industrial development. He described the industry as a vital component of the economy, supporting millions of families and significantly contributing to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Rimi called for strong collaboration with stakeholders to unlock the industry’s potential.



Representing the Garment and Accessories Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (GAMAN), Mrs. Adenike Ogunlesi noted that the garment sector is the driving force of the CTG value chain. She emphasized the industry’s role in creating jobs, earning foreign exchange, and enhancing national visibility for Made-in-Nigeria products.



Mr. Hamma Kwajaffa, Director-General of the Nigeria Textile Manufacturers Association, expressed confidence that the meeting would enhance the industry’s potential and address its challenges. He mentioned that the association provides resources and training for textile manufacturers, focusing on manufacturing and human resources.
