Fight between young men lead to death

OMUTHIYA: A 26-year-old man died after he was allegedly stabbed to death by a 21-year-old suspect at Omuthiya around 22h00 on Tuesday.

According to a crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Deputy Commissioner Wynand Neels on Wednesday, the deceased and suspect were reportedly involved in a physical altercation at a shebeen in the Omuthiya town area.

He added that the suspect assaulted the 26-year-old with his fist and then stabbed him with a knife in the chest. The victim died on the spot.

“The deceased’s body was taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary for a post-mortem to be conducted and the next of kin are not yet informed,” reported Neels.

In a separate incident, a one-month-old baby girl died around 16h00 on Tuesday while allegedly travelling with her mother from Onankali village to Elavi village, where they were going to visit the baby’s father.

While the mother was getting out of the vehicle, she reportedly saw blood coming from the baby’s nose. The baby then became weaker and died suddenly.

Neels reported that the deceased was taken to the Tsumeb State Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Investigations in both matters continue.
