Oyo Government Sets Borehole Drilling Costs at N14,000 Per Meter


Ibadan: The Oyo State Government has established a controlled rate of N14,000 per meter for groundwater abstraction, also known as borehole drilling, across the state. This announcement was made by the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, during an interactive meeting with stakeholders involved in groundwater abstraction.



According to News Agency of Nigeria, Mr Mogbonjubola explained that the purpose of the meeting was to address challenges faced by those in the groundwater abstraction industry and to find collaborative solutions for the sustainable management of this essential resource. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of engaging with industry stakeholders to ensure a balanced approach that benefits both drilling rig owners and middle-level practitioners.



Mr Mogbonjubola further noted that the administration of Governor Seyi Makinde prioritizes the provision of potable water to residents through every feasible strategy. He highlighted that the government has created a conducive environment for individuals who can afford to drill boreholes within their communities, thereby supporting the broader goal of ensuring access to clean water.
